The Kentucky Wildcats recent modest two game home stand ended last Saturday with the Wildcats first real scare in Rupp Arena since the North Carolina game Dec. 1st. The Cats had to show perfection from the free throw line (8 for 8 with Darius Miller going 4 for 4) in the waning seconds to preserve victory against a very tough Alabama team 77 - 71.
It appeared once again that UK's 6' 10" freshman phenom Anthony Davis was the target of some rather intense play by Alabama interior players.
“That’s one of the more physical games I've played. They're going to get worse , I've just got to fight thru it", said Davis , who finished 2 - 10 from the field and 7 - 9 from the free throw line for a total of 11 points and 9 rebounds .
“Somebody’s hip was on him 24/7 until the game ended”, Kentucky coach John Calipari said. “As a matter of fact, they put a hip on him during the post-game handshake, too“.
Kentucky (19 - 1 and 5 - 0 in SEC play) now returns to the SEC road with a two game swing this week beginning at Georgia Tuesday night (9:00 o'clock tip off on ESPN) and then ends on Saturday in Baton Rouge, La. at LSU with a 4:00 o'clock tip off on the ( SEC network channel 27 Lex. and channel 57 Hazard). Both those teams will raise the bar competition and talent wise from the previous two game road swing at Auburn & Tennessee and if that's not enough the Cats should return to #1 in the polls this week with Syracuse getting bumped by Notre Dame last Saturday which will once again perk the interest and enthusiasm to new heights for the home team when the blue and white rolls into town this week.
Which is nothing new for Calipari and his talented team to deal with. I can't see this team going undefeated in SEC play, eventually the Cats will get tagged with a loss maybe two but the trials and tribulations that they will experience on the road will toughen them for the NCAA tourney.
By the way hope your enjoying this stellar season that Coach Cal and his youthful felines are giving us because it's flying by, are you aware it is only six weeks from selection Sunday which basically kicks off March Madness and the road to the Super Dome in New Orleans.
Calipari Pulls In Cats First Commitment For 2013
Coach Cal pulled in his first recruit for the 2013 class last week when Derek Willis of Bullitt East in the 7th region of the KHSAA announced that he would in fact sign with the Kentucky Wildcats in the fall signing period of November when he will be entering his senior year of high school basketball.
Willis was interviewed by a large contingent of statewide media outlets in his school library last Friday at 4:00 o’clock, “UK is just the best fit for me", said Willis." They have been recruiting the best players in the nation since Coach Cal has been there and that's the type player I want to play with in games and against in practice “, concluded Willis.
“It’s been a fun process , but it's been overwhelming at times", said Bullitt East coach Troy Barr . Most every kid growing up in Kentucky wants to play for the Big Blue and once you get older you yearn for the day that you can coach a player that will be playing at UK, concluded Coach Barr.
Willis played in the 21st annual Joe B. Hall Prep Classic last Saturday at the new MCHS Arena in Mt. Sterling , Ky. where his team pulled out a hard earned 61 - 59 victory against Rowan Co. .
Coach John Calipari and his wife Ellen were in the house watching his newest recruit as well as national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels fromwww.scout.com who was in attendance evaluating his skill set to see if his development had reached another level.
